Vocabulary
Art Elements:
Line- referring to a continuous mark, made on
a surface, by a moving point
Shape- an enclosed space, the boundaries of
which are defined by other elements of art
Color- the element of art that is produced when
light, striking an object, is reflected back to the eye
Value- refers to the lightness or darkness of a
color
Texture-
is used to describe either
the way a three-dimensional work actually feels when touched, or the visual
"feel" of a two-dimensional work.
Volume- a shape in three dimensions
Form- a form is a three-dimensional
geometrical figure
Design Principles:
Balance-
the distribution of
elements on the page
Harmony- all parts of the visual image relate to and complement
each other.
Contrast-
differences between items
on the page
Movement-
occurs when objects seem to be moving in
a visual image.
Rhythm- the repetition or alternation of elements, often with
defined intervals between them, create a sense of movement, and can establish
pattern and texture.
